Friday’s discussions on Cambodia’s 2027 minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear and travel goods sectors produced no agreement, with employee and employer delegates holding fast to proposals made at an earlier meeting this week.

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said the September 18 session was the third meeting of the fourth-term National Council on Minimum Wage, which is responsible for setting factory workers’ monthly pay for 2027.

So far, the council has conducted eight meetings in the wage-setting process. They include three tripartite meetings, one bilateral session between worker and employer representatives, three internal meetings among worker delegates and one internal meeting among employer delegates.

Government representatives are mediating the talks and have explained the social and economic criteria used to shape the minimum wage decision.

According to the ministry, most worker representatives backed a $15.30 raise, which would set the monthly minimum at $225.30, while some called for a $40.60 increase, taking it to $250.60.

Employer representatives continued to say the existing $210 monthly rate should be maintained.

The next meeting is set for September 28.
